The beauty and the prisoner... doomed to disappear sooner or later because unable to really express their feeling. I took this photo in Brussels not so lond ago and made the sketch as usual. The composition may look a bit tricky and unusual, because the model was actually standing in front of a large mirror… You can view the drawing in progress at this link...
Wow. Just as a bit of an opening, I must say, all of your work is really fantastic. Simply the fact you can draw so well in itself is amazing, let alone being an excellent photographer AND having creativity.
You really captured her emotion well in the drawing, and I think that is what really makes this an impressive work of art. The shading of the fabric is exceptional as well, it can be really tricky but you really nailed it!
I also like the addition of fire. I'm not sure if you meant to do this, but the fire makes it look like her and her reflection are wearing a crown. This made me think of someone in a high place of authority having to keep up an image, particularly beauty
My only criticism is the dress actually. The colour of it seems almost too pleasant and I feel that maybe the drawing would have been even more effective if the colours were more of a somber tone to match the message being sent.
But overall, very creative! And I have definintely creeped your gallery multiple times. Keep up the amazing work.
Hi Ben this image demonstrates your impressive skill and imagination with camera, pencil, composition and creative software. Whilst there are exceptional exponents of each of these areas on deviant art I have not seen a better combination than your work, of which this piece is especially stand out; the mirror employed, the burning paper, demonstrate you are not resting on your laurels in terms of the creative boundaries you already push. I faced a traditional piece of art you posted on dA some time ago and it was actually through exposure of your art/photo work in wider media that I realised a connection. You are clearly developing into an artist that could become revered in time to come.
This one my wife, Dawn, choose. To her it represented something very much in her mind at the moment. To me she will always be "beautiful" but for her she feels she has now entered the "invisible" phase of a womans life. The inability to make anyone understand the pain of the lose of youth represented by the bandages around the mouth. The tears are representative of the sadness she feels at the lose of feeling "young and attractive". The bird the certainty and freedom once taken for granted. A wonderful depiction for all 50 somethings out there and a picitorial voice that just shouts those emotions. Wonderful work and understanding of women you may not have even realised you were representing. Thank you so much for sharing this. Simon
