Miniature by BenHeine Miniature by BenHeine

I took this photo in a street of Athens, Greece. I applied the "tilt
shift
process" (selective focus) to simulate a miniature scene.

(The above photo has been shot with the Samsung NX10)

Lovely. I'm just starting to learn how to play around with this effect. You are my inspiration.

So difficult to find the right type of shot though.

How does miniaturising work?
My friend Claudi does it too, and it's AMAZING, but how exactly does it make it look miniature?!
My brain cannot comprehend..!

I love Tilt shift effect ,
but you should be more selective,
if your using photoshop, then blur by distance (i.e. only show in focus subjects that are a certain distance from the lens), like lens would on a small subject,
like the building to the left, if this was a real 'small scene', it would be in focus,
also .. if you choose a time of day when the shadows are very pronounced it looks a lot like artificial light and makes the tilt shift effect look a lot better :)
Lovely picture though :)

* I don't really know if you shot it like this or if you edited it. My excuses if this IS the original, unedited photograph. Than this is a new effect for me.

Btw, I just saw your pop-art images, nice work.

Is this "Tilt-shift"?! Where?
You can see that the objects in this shot do not look like miniatures.

The composition of this photo is very good. However I'm not a fan of the tilt shift technique. Maybe it's because I work with Photoshop a lot and can spot the effect pretty easily, but to me it doesn't look like natural depth of field at all. Again, it might be because I've been working with Photoshop techniques for so long, but I can easily tell the difference between real depth focus shift / bokeh and a gradient-masked blur effect. Anyway, just an honest critique. You have a very good eye for composition, good job. :)
