This is a digital work but sort of "handmade" as I placed each circle individually on a black background.

Each circle is made of a single color and a single tone.

It took me quite a long time to finish the whole portrait...

Recently stumbled across your work - WOW Tbh the negativity on your feed that you are faking things I find irrelevant.

I've actually not got a problem with any artist using reference, (Especially in this instance) because it demands a huge amount of patience and skillset to make this convincing.

I'd be more pissed off if it was a filter that I don't have! :D Inspirational!

I don´t believe you are telling the truth about you making it all by yourself... The eyes look very cut out so I looked the photo up... [link] When I place the two pictures on eachother the eye and mouth parts are precisely identical. [link] Also In your process drawing she starts out with hair infront of her eye as you can see: [link] . And when you progress further the hair dissapears.
Offcourse you could have drawn it on your own, but even if someone would try without reference.. It would be hard to have the exact same proportions as on the photo...

I know you will delete this message or find an excuse.. (I love your work) but please be honest. It isn't that hard..

Exactly what I thought. He is only showing the dots he had at the time, not the photo he had underneath it.

Hmm, nice recipe. This is what I thought.

Of course, the circles have to be put on the different layer, having the photo on the background, which is, I thing, a hard work.
But also I know tht there is a plugin in PS making such (or similar) mosaics automatically, with a lot od options (number, size, shape and distribution of mosaic elements). Suspicion of making it automatically, not by hand, comes from very strictly defined (mathematically) distances between the circles and distribution of smaller ones (almost fractal-like).

But, who may prove it? It still looks nice.

If you zoom in the close up in photoshop, you will see some of the circles near the eye don't have 1 color but have more colors in 1 circle

hate to but in but in the defense of the artist any digital image can be found with multiple colors where it apears to be one. this is due to pixalation.
in color theory it is possible to make one color apear as another hue, value and or intensity based on adjacent colors and the surrounding color. While he says this is handmade he does not say there wasn't a reference. it is possible that an under photo was used to place the dots, i mean come on dotting a picture this well digitally is near impossible without some form of "cheating".
By handmade he probably means the tedious work of placing, spacing, colorizing and sizing the dots so that it creates a professional result. (instead of him simply half toning the picture)

So you suppose that the circles have opacity showing photo from underneath?

Around the eyes and mouth atleast. If you look at the closeup you can see a few circles with two diffrent colors

I'm not disagreeing with you, but would you be able to screen cap the circles that are multi-textured, please? I can't actually register the differences without my glasses. But, on a side note, you can use the mosaic feature to do similar things. I just don't think it would be possible to get this amount of detail without using a reference underneath. Lovely work but honesty would be nice.

Every dot so precisely places, sized and coloured.. :wow: It is hard to believe it was done manually. You must love it, judging by the amount of these portraits.

It is very strange that you paint it not knowing the borders of the face and each element, I mean - you use no referrring background.
Very strange. I think some screenshot would be better proof of your handmade work (I assume you want to prove it, since you put such "making of").

What about the colors, did you choose them each for every dot or did you lay a photo behind it?

Why did you "handmade" this one, given your proficiency in PS? I simply can not imagine the amount of time and work you put in here!

Thank you, I did made this in CS4 but I wrote "handmade" to say that it was not generated automatically. I literally painted each dot.
