Art is Ephemeral - 2 by BenHeine Art is Ephemeral - 2 by BenHeine

This is a large painting on canvas (+- 100 x 130cm) I started last week.
I didn't want to finish it so I had the crazy and provocative idea to burn it.
Like everything, art is ephemeral. Only a small piece remains, and the
photos... Don't misunderstand me, art is precious and I don't like to
destroy my work but this was the final purpose of this image.

Life as we know it could be considered ephemeral, yet in burning your artwork it is no more, but the photograph remains which will last a lot longer now that it is online. The artwork looks as if it is smiling with flames coming from its mouth. Some will find this controversial, but I find it to be intriguing. Like the ones shown above, the drawing and fire are what make the picture, great stuff.

A lot of the time, the mere fact that a creation exists makes it (at the very least) an artwork. This picture negates that premise, yet still manages to stand on its own as a form of art. Needless to say, I really enjoy this capture!

This shot is amazing. I mean, the visual effect and the unconfortable feeling one gets when seeing it.

But regarding the concept, I do believe that art is not that ephemeral. I believe that art is timeless, I mean, great art is timeless and transcends time. For example, take a look at the works of the great masters of art, of any kind, like DaVinci or Beethoven. They died a long time ago, but their art still lives.

I would even go further. I do believe that to "remove" their art from the world and leave no trace of their existance, NO TRACE at all, the entire humanity would have to disappear, because their art, or in other words, their ideas are on people's minds all over the world.

I don't know if you got what I mean, but that's what I think. And I also like your art too. Thanks.

A Burning Man exhibit.
I like how the flame seems to be coming from the mouth.
