Anti-Fascism by BenHeine Anti-Fascism by BenHeine
© Ben Heine || Facebook || Twitter ||

This is a photo of a well known graffiti. I took this pic 2 years ago in Coimbra, Portugal.

It just says it all in such a great minimalist way! Anti-Fascism, Anti-Nazism, Anti-Racism...

We must never forget the past.

Consumerism by BenHeine

Remanso, Final Song

A poem by Federico García Lorca

The night is coming.
The moonlight strikes
on evening’s anvil.

The night is coming.
A giant tree clothes itself
in the leaves of cantos.

The night is coming.
If you came to see me,
on the path of storm-winds....

The night is coming. would find me crying,
under high, black poplars.
Ay, girl with the dark hair!
Under high, black poplars.

Disclaimer: I will try to keep my own political opinion out of this as good as possible. If you agree or disagree because of politics, that is fine. Even though I would have to wonder what you do on deviantArt then.

What we have here is a pretty simple spray of a guy with a huge club chasing a person whose limbs have the form of a swastika. This, when viewed together with the title "Anti-Fascism", makes a pretty clear point about the artist's thought on the fascist ideology. Even though I have to add here that the swastika is not a symbol of fascism, but of national socialism. It is however the most recognizable symbol out of this corner of politics, so I will look over it.

It is simple and its two colors, black and white, give the artwork no real depth to think about. It is what it looks like, nothing more, nothing less: A statement against fascist / ultra right wing movements. But it looks good. The style is interesting, but it is obvious that not much effort went into making it look perfect.

4/5 seems fair to me.

Weeell, it is a drawing on a wall using nothing the world has not seen before. But I liked the idea of the swastika limbs.

2.5/5 is about what I would give this one.

As I said, it is nothing out of the ordinary, black on a white wall, but it works. This picture needs to be rough, as it is not supposed to be the opinion of an artist but of a common man. Maybe I am over-interpreting and the artist was just lazy, but I like the technique a lot for what it is supposed to do.

4/5 again.

Well, there is not much to say about the impact. If you are pro-nazism, you will call this artwork propaganda and if you are not, you will probably agree with the artist on his views how to deal with fascist movements. It makes you think, but it does not leave an impact of its own.

3/5 seems about right.

Well, I hope you found my thoughts insightful, and if you did not, that is fine, too. As I said, I tried to keep my political opinion out of here, but to anyone wanting to know it to see if my review is biased: I would agree with the artist's intentions.
What do you think?

Id laugh because I can understand the nature of how a free man can feel about one who wants to control and enslave his life brutally by another's standards, but this generation has forgotten the decree of "never again!" Thats why Political Correctness not only rears its ugly head, it has teeth and intends to devour the world, alienating any chance of free will or thought. Thereby burring hope, imagination and peace!

Like George Carlin once said, "Political Correctness is Fascism pretending to be manners."

"internet bullying"
no that's a stupid way to say they're just incompetent and lazy at their jobs

Intentionally banning someone and even deleting various of the same persons accounts for no reason, deleting models for no reason, and deleting peoples clans just for being related to roleplaying isn't incompetent and lazy...

It takes time to actually find the person and make up a fraud excuse to remove them. If they were lazy and incompetent, either they wouldn't do this at all towards anyone, or they simply would of altogether said fuck the system.

i like to imagine that their moderation panel has them seeing reports one by one and then they spam random buttons each one leading up to a different ban then as soon as they click something the next report appears

Hm, not that i would drop a tear for a nazi, but hunting them with the same call for vigilantism as teh nazis did sounds a bit....thought short. If everyone can and should announce ther political opinion, even against free speach, with force, we´re addicted to the guy with the biggest club. Or the one who can inspire the most people with clubs.
In my town, i can´t distinguish the nazis form the left wing punks anymore, they all kick people to sadisfy ther miserable life, they wear uniform(90% the same as the other group), and can´t write ther own name without typos.
I have a few nazis left in my own goverment, and they´re a very small pain in the ass till such propaganda gives them amunition to declare nazis as "victims of left wing terror". Bulls*it? Sure, but people are easy mindet, everywhere, and forget or transfigure the lessons of the past. WW2 didn´t break out for a bunch of peolpe who just like to kill foreigners;) This is a most stupid american worldview.

Every call to arms will lead to murder, and not in understanding of real reasons. But this must be focused to stop the stupidity of the masses. Form your goverments, sue them if you must for every little break of justice, join the local police and never give up your morality. But that´s really hard work.

Always remembering the past, somehow, keeps us from going forward.
I think we all should forgive ourselves and go on. But always, always, always, always remembering, practicing and preaching the Doctrine of "Dude. Don't be a fucking asshole to others."

i get the symbolic and what the artist wanted to say with this graphic, of course. and i totally agree with your comment: every human-being should not forget what had happened, and what they´re able to do against each other.
but i still think that violence breeds more violence... .
a masqueraded, armed man is hunting "non-armed" nazi-man for bludgeoning- that´s what i see at second view.
graphics are a very strong medium and sometimes a good intention will be misunderstood or misused for other/bad purposes and feed fanatic organisations (again). in that case it makes the hunter (unfortunately) not an awful lot better and the symbolism in this graffiti is too bold (or as you write: minimalistic) for me.

This is what I see. A pussy trying to hide his face (because he's too scared to show it) and using a weapon (because he can't fight) while running after an unarmed man actually showing his face.

This is a wonderful.

Over the summer, we had a Lower Class Brats concert and a friend of mine wore his "Nazi Punks: Fuck Off" shirt. Everybody loved it. Things got awkward, though, when a couple of Neo-Nazi skinheads showed up. Thankfully, no one threw any punches and the show went on without a hitch.

This image shares a very important message.
